Follow the Stories of the new plain colors for sun protection (Part 2)

  18 June 2018

In our last chapter we told you about four new plain colors, inspired by the four Earth elements. Today, we’ll continue with Lava, Marmol, Trigo and Grape. Each of them has a unique and personal touch and each one has a small story behind it, leaving you breathless…

LAVA

Before talking about Lava, it is essential to talk about Pele.

Who's Pele, you might be wondering. Pele is known as the Goddess of volcanoes and fire within the Hawaiian culture. But she isn't a common Goddess, like those we know in Western culture. Pele is an akua, which translated from Hawaiian means "element". Pele is revered in Hawaiian culture because she is considered the foundation, the creation of the Earth.

People know that Pele exists because everyone has ever heard some song or legend that speaks of her. One of the most famous stories about Pele is the one about an old woman who, wandering around the island of Hawaii, asked for food from two girls who were cooking in the garden of their house. The older of the two told the old woman that they should never give food to strangers, but the youngest offered her part of the meal. The old woman told the younger girl that strange things would happen next to the hillside and that they should hang pieces of cloth made from tree bark to protect themselves.

The girl's grandmother said that the old woman who had asked them for food was Pele, so they should follow her advice.

Days later, Pele released the lava to destroy those who angered her, but that lava separated in two flows as it passed through the girls' house, leaving it miraculously intact.

A lava flow is often described as "cleaning the house" in Hawaiian, but the indigenous writer Kanahele says that this is a modern, Western metaphor. "Pele has been flowing for millions of years," he says. "She has not been cleaning, she has been creating land."

Here it is Lava (1076)  our design. Creative and destructive, at the same time, for shade fabrics.

MARMOL

A crisp and elegant color, extremely elegant. It comes with great character. Truthfully, the first roll of Marmol that was made in Santa María d'Oló did not want to be sold as a vulgar piece of merchandise and had to be kept intact and away from the trade in our Weaving Museum.

It's still there.

If you think you are up to it and want to get to know it, here you have it: Marmol 1070

TRIGO

Do you remember the amazing first scene of the movie Gladiator? That is the essence of Trigo; a strong and robust color. As much as it lives outdoors, Trigo is always ready to withstand any kind of adversity.

Trigo (1074) the origin of civilization.
